Surgical adhesions have long been a vexing problem, particularly in gynecological procedures where they can cause infertility. French start-up Womed believes it has a novel solution to this unmet need and a novel strategy for going to market—targeting China before Europe and the US.

Two years ago, after successfully steering Paris-based Stentys, developers of a novel line of stents to treat acute myocardial infarctions, from start-up to publicly-traded company, Gonzague “Gonz” Issenmann was in search of his next project. Issenmann cast his net wide. “All I knew was that I wanted to start something from scratch,” he says.
