ARTICLE SUMMARY:
Innovations in endoscope technology and the availability of more sensitive noninvasive screening tools could help reduce the heavy toll of colorectal cancer– still a leading cause of cancer death in the US – and encourage more people to get screened. More than one-third of older of Americans are not following current colon cancer screening recommendations, and closing this “prevention gap” is a primary goal of both researchers and companies operating in this space.
Colorectal cancer is a disease at a crossroads. Because this type of cancer develops slowly, typically arising from visible, precancerous polyps (adenomas), it is largely preventable with regular screening and polyp removal.
