Surgical robotics came about, 20 years or so ago, to solve the challenges of laparoscopic surgery; the difficulties, for surgeons, of operating in small, closed spaces with a restricted range of motion, and in a non-intuitive manner, since they were required to move a surgical instrument handle in the opposite direction of the desired destination for its tip.
