Tissue engineers have been long on the quest for the elusive artificial blood vessel to serve a significant unmet clinical need for surgically available human blood vessels in hemodialysis vascular access, bypass procedures in peripheral and coronary artery disease, and even more broadly to repair trauma and other injuries.
