ARTICLE SUMMARY:

A California-based start-up gives glaucoma patients a way to relieve ocular pressure according to their individual needs.

Myra Vision, part of the prolific Shifamed innovation hub in Campbell, CA, wants to evolve glaucoma treatment with an adjustable implanted device. The company’s CEO, Robert Chang, is a serial entrepreneur and engineer by training, with Myra Vision being his seventh device start-up in 30 years and his first in the ophthalmology space. Chang was first introduced to Myra Vision’s founders while working at Sadra Medical, another Shifamed company, which sold to Boston Scientific for $225 million in 2011. Although most of Chang’s experience has been in cardiology, he points out the cardiovascular field and his current focus are more similar than one might expect. “It so happens that glaucoma is probably the closest space within ophthalmology to cardiology, since they’re both largely about pressures and flows,” he says.
