At AdvaMed’s annual MedTech Conference, held in Toronto in October 2024, MedTech Innovator celebrated its 10th anniversary. Introducing the grand prize competition for the accelerator cohort of 2024, Paul Grand reminded the audience why he created the accelerator a decade ago.
After starting eight different companies in the biopharma and medtech sectors, Grand became an investor himself, on behalf of RCT (Research Corporation Technologies) Ventures. He said that in his experience, start-ups all over the world did not have the right community of support. “They had a local community of support, in most cases. That is super important at the early stages, but it doesn’t mean you have the best people.” MedTech Innovator was designed to supply that, by providing its accelerator companies with mentorship across all the challenges medtech start-ups deal with: funding, regulatory, reimbursement, quality manufacturing, commercialization, and scaling up.
