ARTICLE SUMMARY:
Lung cancer remains a killer disease, primarily because it is rarely discovered in the early, most curable, stages. One advanced lung biopsy technology that is beginning to change that dynamic is electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB), a minimally invasive, image-guided technique that helps physicians navigate to and biopsy suspicious nodules in the far reaches of the lung. Two companies—Medtronic and Veran Medical Technologies—are working to establish ENB as the standard of care.
Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in the US (excluding skin cancer), and the leading cause of cancer deaths.
