ARTICLE SUMMARY:

An Israeli start-up’s clever method for making gold-standard neuromodulation therapy more accessible gives patients the power to learn to regulate brain activity associated with PTSD.

Oded Kraft describes the foundation of GrayMatters Health, the mental health start-up he leads as CEO, as “networking and serendipity combined,” a fortuitous meeting of minds with decades of diverse work leading up to it. Kraft, an electrical engineer by education with an MBA from Technion Institute of Technology in Israel, had risen through the ranks of GE Healthcare, taking on roles in product development and commercial activity. From there, Kraft decided to explore the world of early-stage companies, including insulin pump start-up Medingo, which eventually sold to Roche for $200 million. During an intermission from his 30-year healthcare industry career, Kraft briefly shifted his focus to digital textile printing at a company he helped take public before returning to medtech by co-founding GrayMatters in 2016 with serial entrepreneur Rani Cohen (now executive chairman) and former GE team leader with extensive R&D experience Shai Attia (now VP, R&D).
