EarliTec Diagnostics: A Watchful Eye on Autism

article image
ARTICLE SUMMARY:

Expediency is key in diagnosing autism spectrum disorder to give young children the best chance of success in their learning development. This Decatur, GA-based start-up enables providers to alleviate the mounting backlog of diagnoses using an objective software tool.

One in every 36 children born in the US will be on the autism spectrum, and one in six will have some sort of developmental delay. To maximize social and intellectual adaptability and independence into adulthood, early detection and therapy is key. According to Tom Ressemann, CEO of EarliTec Diagnostics, the average age to receive a diagnosis is five years, though the American Academy of Pediatricians recommends screenings take place between 18 and 24 months, and behavioral traits of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can begin to exhibit at just six months.
